Purpose & Goals for the Flint North Central COPC

The Flint North Central Community Outreach Partnership Center (COPC) is focused on three overarching goals that guide the purpose and direction of all activities:

1. Address community problems in the North Central area of Flint by increasing faculty and student engagement both through focused academic service learning activities and by changing the nature of student community service from being random and non-specific to being focused on the problems of the neighborhood.

2. Implement the planned activities in partnership with community organizations and members.

3. Create sustainable relationships and infrastructure that will go beyond the years of the grant.

Expected outcomes of the Flint COPC will include:

• Creation of a new career path for youth in Building & Construction trades
• Increase in employment skills for those in the lower rungs of the health care career ladder
• Increase in skilled minority and women contractors
• Increase in labor available for affordable housing construction
• Development of a community-accessible Geographical Information Systems (GIS) database to improve housing planning decisions
• Improved transportation and transportation planning for those with disabilities
• Improvement in the aesthetics and safety of the neighborhood
